Shoreland Zoning Ordinances

Minimum statewide standards exist for development of waterfront properties.

"Shoreland zoning attempts to protect our water resources by regulating the activities on land adjacent to our waterways. Wisconsin law (Section 59.692 (1m), Wisconsin Statutes, 115.05(4) Land division review, 115.05(3)(d) Minimization of erosion, etc, 115.05(5) Establishing sanitary regulations, 115.05(6)(c) and (d) County permitting and inspection requirements) requires counties to adopt and enforce zoning ordinances that meet or exceed the following minimum standards in unincorporated areas. Thirty counties have chosen to update their standards to make them more protective." - Wisconsin Realtor Association.
